Dry stack walls use no mortar. Stones are chosen and set so they take their strength from each other. It is slower, more skilled work — and it weathers in a way mortar never will.
Not every wall is dressed stone. Where the structure calls for it, Long Stride installs Besser block and the Boral Connex system, core-filled with concrete and steel — suitable for retaining and load-bearing walls.
Canberra brickwork copes with freeze and thaw. Crumbling mortar lets water in, rusts wall ties, and quietly undermines the house. Repointing restores strength and appearance.
